Cobourg Police – Man Arrested for Impaired Operation

On September 22, 2021, at approximately 6:00 a.m., police were dispatched to Carlisle Street west of Ewing
Street for a report of a single motor vehicle collision. The vehicle was travelling westbound on Carlisle Street,
where it struck a hydro pole.
As a result of police investigation, the driver was arrested for operation while impaired.
Jason Ivany, a 43-year-old Cobourg resident, was charged with the following offences

Operation while impaired by alcohol or drugs contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Dangerous operation contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code

Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
Act

Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances
Act

Have Care and Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available Contrary to Section 12(1) of
the Cannabis Act

Novice Driver – Presence of Drug contrary to section 44.2(4) of the Highway Traffic Act


The accused was released from custody on an undertaking and summons’ with a future court date.
Cobourg Police encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is
the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada and, yet, every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911
and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, everyone can play a role in keeping our roads and
waterways safe and in reducing impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries.
