Salmon Off To A Slow Start for the Annual Run

In Local

The salmon run has begun in local waterways including Cobourg and Port Hope.

On Monday, September 6, 2021 the Ganaraska River south of Walton Street in Port Hope was crowded with anglers at one popular spot.

Unfortunately it seemed the number of anglers far exceeded the number of salmon that were in the river on Monday.

A few people were lucky enough to catch some, and all, but one were put back in the water during the time Today’s Northumberland was on-site.

In Cobourg, at Peace Park and at the mouth of Cobourg Creek and a number of anglers were also trying their luck – some with success.

Local anglers say it will be another week or a good rain to bring in the annual run.
