Federal leader Justin Trudeau was two-hours late as he arrived in Cobourg for a brief visit that lasted just over six-minutes on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Federal leader Justin Trudeau stopped by Cobourg. Trudeau was schedule to arrived at 6:45 p.m., but didn’t arrive until hours later.

Trudeau’s appearance was at the Black Cat which is a bakery/coffee shop on King Street in Cobourg near Division Street.

The quick stopover was to show his support for Northumberland Peterborough/South Liberal candidate Alison Lester
In COVID times Trudeau elbowed approximately 12 supporters as he arrived in the tiny outdoor patio.

It’s obvious it will be a different election with many events being held outdoors. With that, comes supporters and people who weren’t afraid to raise the voice against the Liberals. A number of anti-lockdown protesters were present who have protested in front of Victoria Hall every Saturday since the pandemic started.

Accompanying Trudeau were at least 10 plainclothes RCMP officers for security. Some carrying backpacks with them.

For most it was hard to hear what Trudeau and Lester were saying during their short time at the microphone.

Trudeau was approximately two-hours late while patient supporters waited not only in the patio, but also in the area around it.

Lester thanks Trudeau for his strength, leadership and vision, “and providing a plan forward for Canadians.”

“I think Canadians are with you and I can’t wait to go to the polls and tell them that.”

As soon as Trudeau started off his short speech people cheered louder, jeered and also called him a murderer.

“What a pleasure it is to be back.”

Trudeau thanked Lester for “stepping up” saying that’s what Canadians have been doing this year.

“This year has been difficult, but people had each others back. They were there for each other.”

“Canadians stepped up time and time again. Right now, across the country, they’re stepping up to get vaccinated, to keep each other safe and that’s how we get through it.”

Trudeau said he was, “incredibly pleased to be standing beside Alison who is a lawyer – and is going to be an extraordinary voice for this community.”

Standing beside Lester was former Liberal MP Kim Rudd who Trudeau called, “an amazing MP for this community.”

“Thank you Kim for your leadership. You left big steps for Alison to follow.”

Trudeau told the crowd, “you may have noticed tonight that there are people with different perspectives on how we need to move forward as a country. And that is one of the strengths of this country. That in these difficult moments – we listen to each other. We lean on each other and we build a better future for all of us. And that’s what we get called upon to do right now.”

“Those of you who don’t think we should be encouraging people to get vaccinated. Who don’t think we should be stepping up to help each other, you have your opportunity to make your voices heard. But you know what. So do all of us other Canadians who know the road through this is to get vaccinated.”

“So it’s an incredible pleasure to be back here in Cobourg and see so many people out – and mostly so many ready to make Alison Lester your next MP.”

Trudeau spent two-minutes-and-forty-five-seconds at the microphone and was off the bus for a total of six-minutes-and-thirty-seconds before getting back on and waving to mainly supporters.

One protestor temporarily blocked the bus from departing before two Cobourg Police officers along with RCMP officers lead the man off of the roadway.

Trudeau’s bus was accompanied by six security vehicles as it headed west on King Street at 8:30 p.m.

The federal election will be held on September 20.
