Northumberland OPP – Marine Incident at Lock 18

In Police Blotter

On July 25, 2021 at 2:27 p.m., members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), attended Lock 18 in Hastings, in response to a vessel stuck in the spillway at Lock 18.

Police learned that the vessel had lost power and was subsequently pulled into the spill way, under the protective cabling, by the strong currents in the Trent-Severn Waterway, where it became wedged stern first in the structure.

Fire services were able to bring the six occupants to safety. Two occupants sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident, however they did not require medical treatment
