The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has advised the Town of Cobourg that the Victoria Park beach is now safe for swimming, after retesting results came back with an acceptable E. Coli bacteria level.

It’s a reversal of the July 12 testing announced earlier this week that showed bacteria levels of 823, far exceeding the provincial standard of 200. However, retesting on July 13 showed a very acceptable level of 149.

The West Harbour, however, remains posted at Medium Risk, with swimming not recommended due to bacteria levels of 498.

Staff from the health unit and the Town of Cobourg both sample water frequently to monitor bacteria levels.

While the beach is closed weekends, staff updated signage at both the beach and the West Harbour yesterday to reflect the latest results.

To stay up-to-date, see the Water Quality Testing page on the town’s website.
