Update – Northumberland OPP – Collision Leads to Impaired by Drug Charges

On Thursday June 10, 2021 at approximately 6:10 p.m. officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a two vehicle collision at County Rd 10 and County Rd 2 in the municipality of Port Hope.

Police discovered that a grey vehicle had been stopped at the intersection and was rearended by a white vehicle. The white vehicle then left the scene.

Police were able to quickly locate the white vehicle with the assistance of the public and subsequently arrested the driver for driving while impaired by drugs.

The victims suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

The accused Ricky William WATTS (age 52) of Port Hope was charged with the following offences:

  • Impaired operation while impaired by drugs Contrary to section 320.14(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance Contary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

The accused was released and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on July 21st 2021.
