Cobourg Council – Watch That Waste Water Councillor Urges

In City Hall

That hot weather that brings people outdoors is also prime time for them to wash their cars and drain their pools.

For every Cobourg resident looking to do that, Councillor Brian Darling made a request at this week’s council meeting – watch where that waste water goes.

That water draining out of pools is chlorinated, Darling pointed out, and that water being hosed off your car has detergents and cleaners.

The important thing to remember is not to let it flow into the street, where it can go into the storm drain and reach local bodies of water as toxic pollutants.

The hope is that pool owners will pump their old water onto lawns and just let it soak into the ground.

Similarly, car washers who might typically do this chore in their driveways are urged to drive the car onto the lawn first and then get the washing done.
