Abandoned Pig Rescued By Police And Other Agencies in Cobourg

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

The irony isn’t lost that one of the agencies involved in rescuing a abandoned pig in Cobourg on Saturday, June 5, 2021 were members of the Cobourg Police Service.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Cobourg Police were notified by someone who spotted the piglet on Whites Road near Terry Fox School.

It’s believed the piglet was sometime throughout the day on Saturday.

There was a box and plastic container with food/mash in it. The piglet was out of the box and appeared to be looking for food in the dirt.

Dr. Sue Gambling who owns Rice Lake Animal Hospital and technician Caroline Douglas were called to the scene and said the piglet had dug up quite a patch of dirt in the area.

The piglet was taken to English Bulldog Rescue south of Peterborough because they helped abandoned piglets in the past and would also have contacts for a future home.

The owner of the Rescue facility said she named the piglet Reggie and he’s approximately 10 pounds, but when full grown could reach 300-600 pounds.
