Cobourg Police – Port Hope Man Charged With Operation While Impaired

Cobourg police arrest a Port Hope man for impaired driving after attending business in the Northwest of
Cobourg.

On Sunday, May 30, 2021, police were dispatched to a business parking lot in the northwest area of Cobourg
for a report of a possible impaired driver.

Police investigation led officers to discover open alcohol inside the vehicle, and a breath sample from the
driver failed the roadside test. As a result, James NIEMINEN, a 33-year-old man from the Municipality of Port
Hope, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Operation While Impaired – Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus) – Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a)
of the Criminal Code of Canada

Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor – Contrary to Section 32(1)
of the Liquor Licence Act
The accused was released on an undertaking and summons with a future court date.
