Doctor Calls 9-1-1 for Medical Emergency at Northumberland Hills Hospital

Emergency services including Northumberland County Paramedics and Cobourg Fire Department were dispatched to Northumberland Hills Hospital on Thursday, March 18, 2021 for a medical emergency.


Communications spokersperson for Northumberland Hills Hospital, Jennifer Gillard confirmed a doctor called 9-1-1 after a medical emergency.

“I can confirm that a patient was attending one of the private physician offices on site for an outpatient appointment,” said Gillard.

“This patient experienced a medical emergency during a diagnostic test and the physician called 911.”

“First responders arrived on site and were directed to the patient in the physician’s office.”

Gillard stated Northumberland Hills Hospital has “policies and procedures in place to alert the internal hospital team, vs external first responders, to support in these circumstance and we will be reviewing that procedure with our on-site physicians offices and their staff.”

“The patient involved is now in the care of our Emergency Department team and we wish them a quick recovery.”
