Vehicle Goes Through Ice While Off-Roading In The Municipality of Port Hope

In Police Blotter

Two people suffer mild hypothermia after a vehicle went through the ice while off-roading in the Municipality of Port Hope on Friday, March 12, 2021.

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on Friday, Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services along with Northumberland OPP and Northumberland County Paramedics were dispatched to the eastbound, Highway 401 OnRoute Centre near the Durham border.

A vehicle was off-roading behind the Centre and while going over a patch of ice in a marsh area, the vehicle suddenly broke through the ice.

Water quickly entered the vehicle, rising to just above the front seat.

With the help of others, both occupants were removed from the vehicle.

At least one person was transported to hospital with what was believed to be mild hypothermia.
