Exclusive – Arson The Cause of Fire at Apartment Building in Colborne on Saturday States OFM

The Ontario Fire Marshal has determined a fire at an apartment building in downtown Colborne on Saturday, February 13, 2021 was intentionally set.

Cramahe Fire Department were dispatched to 11 Toronto Street for a possible structure fire at 12:34 p.m. on Saturday.

When they arrived heavy smoke was coming from the building.

Mutual Aid was called and fire departments from Brighton, Trent Hills and Hamilton Township were called to assist.

Firefighters were worried about the fire extending into the roof, but managed to stop the fire from spreading. The main portion of fire damage is confined to one apartment, but other apartments were damaged by smoke and water.

It’s believed eight people are displaced as a result of the fire. Four of them were taken to hopsital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office worked on Saturday and Sunday to determine the cause of the fire.

On Monday, February 15, 2021, the OFM stated to Today’s Northumberland, “the cause has been deemed incendiary.”

Northumberland OPP Crime Unit are still investigating.
