Editorial – Let’s Start The Year Off Right and Get This Low Life Before The Courts

In Editorial

Editorial – Let’s start this year right and get this “person” off the street.

Let’s get the low-life that vandalized the Cobourg Afghanistan Memorial sometime overnight Saturday or Sunday morning before the courts as soon as possible.

Let’s do it for the 40,000 courageous men and women of the Canadian Forces who stood on the battle lines in hopes of creating a better world for the people of Afghanistan.

Let’s do it for the soldiers families who waited at home praying of their safe return.

Everyone in this great country knows someone who served in Afghanistan.

Let’s band together as a community and show this will not be tolerated.

Let’s do it for the fallen heroes that died in another country for peace. Let’s do it for their memories, for their relatives and friends.

Let’s do it for each and every Canadian who stood on bridges along the stretch of Highway of Heroes from CFB Trenton to Toronto.

Who wanted to embrace families of the fallen and let them know they weren’t alone in their grieving.

That people from the Cobourg community and Canadians stood with them in their grief.

Let’s do it for the soldiers who came home with invisible battle wounds. Ones that you don’t see, but are there for life.

This story reaches far and wide.

Veterans and politicians are outraged.

Was it a misguided youth or an activist with a plan.

Either way, with the words “death to imperialism” spray painted on the LAV III it was meant to get attention. And it did.

Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf said they are leaving no stone unturned and it’s just a matter of time before an arrest happens.

We believe him. Over the last few years the moral amongst the police service has improved in leaps and bounds.

If VandeGraaf said they will get their man/woman. Bank on it.

Someone knows something about who did it.  A friend or family member.  There are crimes that hit home and anger people more than others.  This is one.

To the low life that did this – the best advice we can offer is to turn yourself in as soon as possible.

Doing that shows you have some regret for your actions. Other than that. When (not if) Cobourg Police catch you, put you in metal bracelets it may not look so good when you are in front of a judge pleading your case that has absolutely no merit.

After all it would be the first decent thing you’ve done this year.

If anyone has information on this despicable act call Cobourg Police.
