Resuming the parking fees and regular transit schedules in Cobourg – the suspension of which began last March as a COVID-19 measure – is now on the horizon, following a vote at council’s committee-of-the-whole meeting Monday.
An amendment to the motion by Councillor Adam Bureau separated out the parking issue from the motion put forward by Brian Darling. Whereas Darling had moved that the re-implementation of parking-fee collection and bylaw enforcement of downtown parking meters and parking lots was to take effect Jan. 26, Bureau’s amendment – which was carried – was to keep them suspended until the current provincial lockdown is lifted.
As for conventional transit services, the Jan. 26 date holds for resumption of normal operating hours for conventional transit. As for fares, council decided on a $2 cash fare per ride until a contactless or on-line fare-payment system could be implemented, or until Victoria Hall reopens to the public.
