For the fourth consecutive year, Community Care Northumberland will support seniors in need this holiday season through the organization’s
Adopt a Grandparent program. This year the program will continue supporting grandparents in Trent Hills, in addition to those in Colborne, Cobourg and Port Hope.
“This program spreads joy by providing meaningful and useful gifts to grandparents who are isolated in our communities,” says Natisha Taylor, Manager of Wellness Services for Community
Care Northumberland. “This program will provide comfort and holiday cheer to older adults who may be facing increased feelings of loneliness and financial uncertainty, especially in the midst
of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“We have seen tremendous support and generosity from our community for this program since it began in 2017,” says Trish Baird, Chief Executive Officer for Community Care Northumberland.
“This program is a great example of what can happen when our community comes together to meet a local need and support those in our community.”
This year, members of the community who are interested in adopting a grandparent can do so by calling 705-653-1411 or emailing n.taylor@commcare.ca to be matched with a senior.
Community Care Northumberland staff will provide a list of recommended/desired items, and individuals can phone their local Community Care Northumberland office to arrange a date and
time to drop off the gifts on or before December 11th. CCN staff will wrap the gifts and safely deliver them to the grandparents just before Christmas. Members of the community can also
adopt a grandparent by donating to this program and allowing Community Care Northumberland staff to complete the shopping.
For this year’s program, we kindly ask participants to refrain from including homemade baked goods and that if handmade items, such as a scarf or mittens, are given to please include
instructions on how to clean and care for the item(s). Non-perishable food items that can be easily cleaned may be included. Some other encouraged gift items include gift cards to local
stores and/or gift cards for Community Care Northumberland’s transportation and Meals on Wheels programs.
For more information on this program, or to be matched with a grandparent, call our Campbellford office at 705-653-1411 and ask for Natisha or Andrea or email n.taylor@commcare.ca.
