Port Hope Police – Relationship Scam

A 58 year old woman has become a victim of a relationship scam.

The victim met a man on the dating app “Tinder”.

The two exchanged personal phone numbers and communicated daily over a 6 week period.

The male indicated he was currently in Cyprus and had his passport taken by immigration and he required money to get his documents returned to him.

The male said if she transferred money through bitcoin to get his personal papers back he would come to Port Hope to visit her.

The victim ended up sending three separate bitcoin transactions all within three days of each other.

The total loss for the victim is excess of $13,000.00 dollars.
