Different Classifications of E-Bikes, Mopeds and Motor Scooters

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

Police are trying to educate the public on the different classifications of e-bikes, mopeds and motor scooters.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020 a bicycle with a gas powered engine zoomed down a walkway and onto Croft Street in Port Hope.

The rider was wearing a bicycle helmet, and told Today’s Northumberland the engine was 50 cc, but said he wasn’t really sure what the classification of device he was riding.

Port Hope Police said in some incidents it is a “grey” area of what type of device the rider is operating.

Today’s Northumberland is posting a guide obtained by Northumberland OPP in hopes of educating riders.
