Club Given Permission By Town To Use Inner Harbour Beach

In Local

Despite a fence along the inner harbour beach because of high E. Coli readings members of the Cobourg Dragon Boat and Canoe Club have been given permission to use the beach area.

Interim CAO Ian Davey told Today’s Northumberland on Thursday, August 6, 2020 that, “the club is allowed to bring boats onto the sand and relaunch them.”

Approximately 100 metres of the beach area of the inner harbour was fenced off on July 29, 2020 due to E.Coli readings 1,400 E.coli which exceeds the provincial standard of 200 parts per million.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Unit advised the Town of Cobourg to shut down swimming at the west harbour and to post no swimming signs “immediately” because the water posed a “serious health risk.”
