Northumberland OPP – Civic Long Weekend Traffic Initiative Results

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had a busy weekend on our highways, waterways and trails. Officers conducted numerous foot patrols, vessel checks, Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check points, responded to 348 calls for service, along with traffic enforcement that yielded numerous charges in support of the OPP’s Provincial Civic Day Long Weekend “Move Over” Campaign that ran from July 31 – August 3, 2020.

Officers throughout the province were highly visible o n our roadways addressing motorists who do not slow down and safely move over for roadside emergency vehicles, as well as observing for poor driving behaviours that place all road users at risk.

There were numerous charges laid in Northumberland County during this long weekend traffic initiative:

Speeding – 66

Racing – 1

Seatbelts – 7

Suspended Drivers – 2

Careless Driving – 1

Moving violations – 6

Insurance related charges- 5

Impaired driving charges – 2

Off Road Vehicle (ORV) checks – 14 (no violations)

Marine vessel checks – 45 (one violation)

Other Highway Traffic Act violations – 6
