(MUNICIPALITY OF TRENT HILLS, ON) – On Saturday July 25, 2020, members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check on County Road 30 just south of the town of Campbellford.
Shortly before 6:30 am a black Mazda four door sedan approached the check point. The odour of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from the vehicle. A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) was administered to the vehicle operator at the scene resulting in a “fail”. The driver was transported back to the OPP detachment in Campbellford for further testing.
As a result of the investigation Issac VERHEYEN (age 21) of Brighton Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was additionally charged with several offences under the Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Cannabis Control Act.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 30, 2020.
The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
