Marie Dressler Foundation Announces Grant from Canadian Heritage

In Community

The Board of Directors of Marie Dressler Foundation is pleased to announce receipt of a major grant from Canadian Heritage to support the revitalization of Marie Dressler House.

“The Marie Dressler House Revitalization Project” will protect and celebrate the 180+ years heritage of the House and build a lasting legacy for years to come” according to Rick Miller,
President and Chair, Marie Dressler Foundation.

The Revitalization Project will create a new museum, Canadian Women In Film, to be a platform to celebrate accomplishments of Canadian women in film, past and present. The
museum will feature permanent exhibitions for Canadian Oscar winners Mary Pickford and Norma Shearer, who will join fellow Oscar winner Marie Dressler in her natal home.

“We will create a visitor experience that is educational and inspirational,” advises Miller, “providing a signpost that shows the historical journey for women in film and connects with
today’s efforts to achieve gender equity in front of and behind the camera.”

The detailed design for the new Canadian Women In Film Museum was completed in April 2020 by five students (Michelle Wright, Enya Barbeau, Emma Myers, Karen Cheung, Natalie
Heaton) in the Museum Studies Masters’ degree program at University of Toronto. The design was generously donated to the Foundation by the University of Toronto.

“We are pleased to acknowledge that this project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada”, added Miller. “Our fundraising campaign continues in order to raise
the remainder of the funding required for the project.”

The Foundation is looking for volunteers who are interested in becoming involved with this exciting project. Contact Rick Miller at dresslermuseum@gmail.com for more details.
