City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Underwater Search and Recovery Unit Recovers Body of Missing Canoeist

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – On July 14, 2020, just after 9:00 p.m. officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a marine related call on Pigeon Lake. Initial investigation indicated that five persons departed from a residence in a canoe which then capsized.

Four of the occupants were located by a boater and taken to shore. One occupant was not located. None of the occupants were wearing life jackets. Uniform members, the local fire department and the OPP’s aviation services assisted with the initial search.

On July 15, 2020 the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended to continue the search of Pigeon Lake for the missing canoeist, a twenty year old North York resident. The USRU has recovered the body of the missing canoeist.

The OPP would like to thank the citizens who assisted with this incident.
