Northumberland OPP – Three More Drivers Charged with Impaired Driving

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made three arrests for impaired driving this past weekend June 26 – June 28, 2020.

(MUNCIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) Just after 6:00 pm on Friday June 26, 2020, officers received several reports of an individual on Highway 401 just west of Brighton in the westbound lanes, waving vehicles down looking for assistance for what appeared to be a flat tire. Police located the grey Pontiac sedan and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. The officer administered a roadside screening device test and the driver registered a “fail”. The driver was then transported back to the OPP detachment in Brighton for further testing.
Amy Lea KAVANAUGH (age 31) of Warkworth, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Having care and control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) On Saturday June 27, 2020, at approximately 7:45 pm a concerned motorist called police regarding a white BMW travelling southbound on County Road 45. The vehicle was described as being unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane and crossing into oncoming traffic. Officers located the described vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 401.
As a result of the investigation Tawab SULTANI (age 21) of Toronto, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND TOWNSHIP) Just before 9:00 pm on Sunday June 28, 2020, police were notified of a single vehicle collision on County Road 2 west of Townline Road. A silver Subaru four door sedan was travelling eastbound when it left the roadway and rolled into the southside ditch. After a conversation with the uninjured driver, the officer suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol. The officer administered a roadside screening device test and the driver registered a “fail”. The driver was then transported back to the OPP detachment in Cobourg for futher testing. Callum O’ROURKE (age 22) of Baltimore, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Careless driving

Man Taken Into Custody Following Vehicle Rollover in Alnwick/Haldimand Township

All three accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded. They were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on scheduled dates in September 2020.
