(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Thursday June 18, 2020, 28-year-old Steven SLAUNWHITE of Hamilton Township was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), after members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a silver Nissan SUV that had left the roadway, entered the ditch and rolled on Alnwick Hill Road near Harwood Road just after 6:00 am. The driver did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 12, 2020.
(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Saturday June 20, 2020 at approximately 7:45 am officers responded to a traffic complaint regarding a dark coloured four door Honda sedan travelling westbound on Highway 401 east of Cobourg. The vehicle was described as weaving in and out of traffic, travelling at high speeds and passing other vehicles on the shoulder. Officers observed the suspect vehicle exit the highway and stopped it on Burnham Street. As a result of the investigation Fahad Anwar MAKEN (age 25) of Pickering Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand
· Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
· Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The driver was additionally charged with violations under the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 2, 2020.
(MUNICIPALITY OF PORT HOPE, ON) – Just before 1:00 am on Wednesday June 24, 2020 officers were notified of white Ford Ranger pickup truck travelling southbound on County Road 28 that was described as braking continuously and unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane. With the assistance of a concerned motorist the vehicle was located at the Service Centre on County Road 28 just north of Port Hope.
As a result of the investigation Jonathan BAIRD-NEVINS of Milton, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 2, 2020.
All the accused listed above had the vehicles they were driving towed and impounded for seven days and their drivers licences immediately suspended for 90 days.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility. Driving impaired, whether by alcohol or drug, puts everyone at risk. Drivers need to remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive.
