Clarington Fire Department Responds to Brush Fire on Highway 401

Clarington Fire Department responded to a smoky blaze on Highway 401 on Saturday, June 6, 2020.

At approximately 4:30 a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming from the eastbound ditch area near Stephenson Road, east of Newcastle.

The passerby immediately called 9-1-1 and Clarington Fire Department responded to the scene.

Using a pumper truck as a blocker for one lane of the highway, fire crews extinguished the brush fire.

No cause of the fire.
