Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a motor vehicle operator and one ATV rider with impaired driving this past weekend.

On Saturday May 23, 2020 at approximately 9:30 pm, police, paramedics and fire fighters responded to a report of a collision involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on Park Road just off County Road 22 near the village of Castleton. Three riders were on an ATV travelling on a gravel road when the operator lost control causing it to roll. The riders were all transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. As a result of the investigation Nicholas DEMONE (age 22) of Oshawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 22, 2020.

On Sunday May 24, 2020 at approximately 3:00 pm police received several calls from other motorists of a blue Kia SUV travelling at inconsistent speeds, and swerving into oncoming traffic southbound on County Road 45 heading towards Highway 401. Police located the vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 401 near Port Hope. Officers detected a strong odour of alcohol upon speaking to the driver. A roadside Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered to the vehicle operator resulting in a “fail”. The driver was arrested and transported back to the OPP detachment in Cobourg for further testing. Brian EATON (age 55) of Scarborough, Ontario has been charged with:

· Operation while Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
