But police were pleased that residents continued to follow new rules over the weekend

Over the weekend, Cobourg continued implementing Stage 1 of the Government of Ontario’s Framework for Reopening.

The Cobourg Police Service would like to thank residents for their continued effort in following the new rules and guidelines.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, members of the Cobourg Police Service have been out in the community using a collaborative and educational approach enforcing the orders made under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

Cobourg residents continue to demonstrate their commitment to the health and safety of the community. “Cobourg residents have been doing their part to fight the spread of COVID-19, and we thank them for that,” says Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service.

“Unlike other towns and cities this weekend, Cobourg community members continued to follow the new guidelines released by the town on Friday. We would like to thank residents for their continued effort and cooperation. Your actions are making a difference.”

Victoria Park and Cobourg Beach saw daytime users in small groups, adhering to rules and health guidelines. The fight against COVID-19 is not over and it is important that we continue to do our part to stop the spread. As the amenities continue to gradually reopen and rules and guidelines change, Cobourg Police will continue to work together with community members to provide information and support as we navigate this new and evolving reality laying charges only as a last resort.

To date, Cobourg Police has issued four violations under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

It was four total since the beginning of the declared emergency.

All four were for Failing to Comply with an Order Made During a Declared Emergency

One was issues since the Town announced stage one reopening changes on Friday, May 22, 2020.
