The Cobourg Farmers Market is making a slight move to the east and a big move to e-commerce.

Following the passage of a bylaw at Tuesday’s council meeting, the market is going all-digital in respect to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will make use of the Albert Street parking lot to provide curbside pick-up (instead of setting up in the adjacent Rotary Waterfront Park for on-the-spot sales and browsing).

It starts this Saturday and runs on Saturdays through Dec. 19, and hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Opening day will feature Councillors Adam Bureau and Nicole Beatty as volunteers, helping to ensure everything goes well. Beatty said she will also be a customer.

“I actually went on-line today and did my on-line order,” Beatty said.

“It’s very navigable, very exciting, and I look forward to picking up my order on Saturday.”

While going on-line to order then driving to pick it up sounds simple, Councillor Emily Chorley conveyed questions she had heard from constituents who have no internet and some who have no cars.

“Unfortunately, on-line is the only way that they can go,” Bureau said.

“If they do not drive, there will be a walk-up site where you can pre-pay and then walk up and get your vegetables. It will be marked out on the sidewalk with social distancing as well.”
