Port Hope Woman Finds A Way For Community to Say “Thank You” In A Button

A Port Hope woman is doing her best to show support for people helping during the COVID-19 crisis.

“I started by giving out blue ribbons for people to tie on their front trees or lights to show their support for the front line and essential workers,” said Avril Ewing.

“I felt it was important to give the community a way to say “thank you.”

With the help of a young person experienced with graphics, Ewing has now created buttons.

The set of three buttons depict emergency services, medical services, and essential services which includes, grocery store staff, mail carriers, and bereavement professionals.

“It’s a broad representation of who is out there keeping society going while the rest of us stay home safe and sound to protect our community.”

Ewing said there is no charge for the buttons or ribbons, “but if people feel they need to pay it forward, I invite them to buy a sandwich for a homeless person, check on their neighbours, or make a donation to the food bank.”
