Message from Director of Education Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board

In Local

Jennifer Leclerc/Director of Education

As you know, a state of emergency has been declared in Ontario to respond to the spread of COVID-19 within our province.

In these unprecedented and difficult days, all public organizations have been working cooperatively with their community partners to address local needs.

As part of that, we are writing to share with you that we will be opening space at CCI to house local residents of Transition House. These are individuals who would normally stay at Transition House, but need alternative housing to help protect them from possible COVID-19 exposure. It is important to note that individuals who are ill or are COVID-19 confirmed, will be housed elsewhere.

This temporary shelter is the result of a joint effort by MPP David Piccini, and community partners including: Northumberland County; Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit; and Transition House Emergency Shelter, to keep residents of the shelter healthy and safe during COVID-19.

These individuals need shelter, with access to bathroom facilities, showers and a kitchen to maintain their good health. They will not have access to the broader areas of the school building. We appreciate the understanding of parents and staff as we work through these very challenging days. We also want to assure everyone that we will complete a thorough and intensive cleaning to all areas of the school before allowing students and staff to return.
