Northumberland OPP – Transport Driver Facing Provincial Offence Charges

A transport driver received a three day suspension after being pulled over on Highway 401 on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.

Northumberland OPP say at approximately 2:20 p.m. a tractor trailer was clocked at 128 kph in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at Port Hope.

The transport was pulled over just east of the Hamilton Township Boundary Road overpass.

An odour of alcohol was detected on the driver. A breath sample was provided and his license was suspended for three days as a result of an alcohol reading. Commercial motor vehicle drivers, specifically transport drivers are not allowed to have any alcohol in their system while driving.

Open liquor was also located in the cab and seized.

A tow company was called to the scene to remove the tractor trailer from the highway.

A 59-year-old driver from Oshawa was given tickets for speeding , Drive commercial motor vehicle without a properly working speed limiter, driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.

The company was charged with permit operation of commercial motor vehicle without a properly working speed limiter.
