Update – Serious Collision on Highway 401 in August 2019 Results In Several Charges

On Thursday August 22, 2019 shortly after 9:00 pm, members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with emergency personnel, responded to a collision on Highway 401 eastbound at Hamilton Road east of Port Hope involving a tractor trailer and three passenger vehicles.

Six people were transported by ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment. One of those injured, a 55-year-old female from Cobourg, was then transported by air ambulance to a Toronto area hospital with serious life altering injuries.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 between Port Hope and Cobourg were closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.

As a result of the investigation the driver of the tractor trailer Navtej Singh SIDHU (age 21) of Brampton, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

· Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm (3 counts)

A second driver involved in the collision Gavin GOODE (age 23) of Pefferlaw, Ontario has additionally been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

· Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm (2 counts)

Both accused have been released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. SIDHU’s scheduled court appearance is on March 25, 2020 and GOODE is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2020.
