Northumberland OPP – Weekday Impaired Drivers

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made three arrests for impaired driving this week.

At approximately 1:45 pm on Monday February 10, 2020 an officer stopped a white Dodge pick-up truck that was travelling westbound on Highway 401 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township after is was observed to be unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane and almost causing a collision. Police investigation led to the arrest of the vehicle driver.

Luc TASSE (age 35) of Ottawa, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

On Tuesday February 11, 2020 just after 6:00 pm police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in silver BMW sedan on Lyle Street in the Village of Grafton. Officers located the vehicle and found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol.
As a result of the investigation Christopher ASHTON (age 59) of Alnwick-Haldimand Township was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Drive motor vehicle – no licence

Just after 8:30 am on Wednesday February 12, 2020 officers stopped a Nissan sedan on Highway 401 eastbound near County Road 26, after it was observed to be travelling at inconsistent speeds and almost colliding with the concrete median.

Oleksandr LEVCHUK (age 36) of Montreal, Quebec was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Failure or refusal to comply with demand

All three accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded. They were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 18, 2020.
