Northumberland OPP – Trent Hills Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges Resulting From Road Range Incident

On February 11, 2020 around 7:17 PM members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a road rage incident that had occurred between two drivers. During the incident, one of the involved drivers discharged a firearm.

Officers received information that the drivers involved had interacted on several occasions during the evening from 6:00 pm to 7:17 pm. The road rage incidents occurred on different roadways throughout the Warkworth area.

Shortly after the incident was reported, officers located and arrested one of the drivers involved in the incident.

Mitchell BRENTON (Age 29) of Trent Hills has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:

· Attempt to commit murder using firearm
· Assault with a weapon
· Careless use of a firearm
· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
· Discharge firearm with intent
· Pointing a firearm
· Unauthorized possession of prohibited or restricted firearm
· Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
· Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
· Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
· Breach of firearms regulation – store firearm or restricted weapon
· Dangerous operation

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on February 18 2020.
