Cobourg’s Human Resources Manager Melissa Henke was present at Monday’s committee-of-the-whole meeting of council in case her input was needed. following a presentation on a pay-equity consultation review update.

It wasn’t needed, but Mayor John Henderson called her to the dais anyway.

“Sometimes Santa brings great gifts at Christmas,” he said, pointing out that Henke’s was to move on to the human-resources department at Sir Sandford Fleming College.

“On behalf of myself, council, senior staff, the CAO and the citizens, we all want to thank you collectively for 10 years of wonderful service to the Town of Cobourg,” he said.

The good wishes come just days after he had personally presented her with a certificate recognizing 10 years of service, Henderson noted.
“We wish you well, we wish you a bright future, and I have no doubt, living in Cobourg, our paths will cross.”

It was several hours after the end of her final day working for the Town of Cobourg, at 4 p.m., but Henke acknowledged the sentiments.

“It’s been a pleasure working for the Town of Cobourg the past 10 years, and I am certainly going to miss the people and the relationships here,” she said.

“I appreciate every opportunity that has been afforded to me here.”
