Cobourg Police – Possible Presence of Etizolam in Cobourg

In Police Blotter

On Monday, December 30, 2019, Cobourg Police encountered a pink, powdery substance during an investigation.

Though unconfirmed at this time, Police suspect the substance to be fentanyl mixed with Etizolam.

Etizolam when combined with street opioids has led to an increase in the number and severity of drug overdoses in British Columbia as Narcan or Naloxone, which is used to remedy the effects of opiates has proven ineffective.

The Cobourg Police would like to remind people that if you locate anything suspected of being narcotics, to not handle it and contact police immediately.

Further, if you are using narcotics, ensure that you do so with other people present and take necessary precautions to ensure emergency services can be notified.

Finally, should you encounter someone who you suspect is overdosing, contact emergency services as soon as possible.

The Good Samaritan Act ensures that fear of legal repercussion never prevents someone from trying to help in an emergency situation, which includes, but is not limited to, those engaging in the consumption of illicit narcotics.
