Cameco Fund for Mental Health Awards Grants to 10 Northumberland County Organizations

In Local

The Cameco Fund for Mental Health has awarded grants totaling $68,000 to 10 projects benefiting Northumberland County. The projects range from mental health training to direct support for people struggling with mental health.

The Cameco Fund for Mental Health was established with proceeds from the 8th Annual Cameco Charity Golf Tournament and the inaugural Step Up for Mental Health 5K event held in Port Hope on Sept. 28, 2019. The total raised includes 100 per cent of the walk/run registration fees and a matching amount from Cameco, plus individual and corporate donations.

“Mental health affects all of us, whether it’s personal, a co-worker or a family member,” said Dale Clark, vice-president, Cameco Fuel Services Division. “Through this grant program, we are able to directly help organizations and groups who are working hard to provide programs and resources to those who need it.”

Following a call for funding applications in November, submissions were adjudicated by representatives from Cameco, Northumberland Hills Hospital, Northumberland Community Counselling Centre and Saskatoon Community Foundation. The Saskatoon Community Foundation is Cameco’s grant partner established through Cameco’s corporate headquarters which are based in Saskatoon, SK. Of the 10 successful applicants, seven represent registered charities and three are organized groups/non-profit organizations.

The 2019 Cameco Fund for Mental Health Recipients are:
– Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre

– Northumberland Community Counselling Centre

– Rebound Child & Youth Services Inc.

– Transition House Coalition of Northumberland

– Port Hope High School

– Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board

– Campbellford & District Community Mental Health

– Green Wood Coalition

– Northumberland Federation of Agriculture

“Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients and thank you to all of the applicants,” added Clark. “There is a lot of great work being done here in Northumberland and we are proud that we are able to help make a difference.”
