Proposed Muslim Cemetery Will Be Considered in Cramahe Township

In City Hall

A proposal to establish a new Muslim cemetery in Cramahe Township will be considered at the 7 p.m., January 28, 2010 meeting of the municipal council.

The Ummati Cemetery request proposes a cemetery be located at 360 Lake Road on 43 acres of land zoned prime agricultural. The Ummati Cemetery is a registered charity established through an endowment.

For the cemetery project to proceed for consideration and oversight by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario which administers the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act 2001 (Ontario) on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services, a favourable decision of Cramahe Township is required.

Cramahe Township council will review and consider a report from its Planning Department on this proposed cemetery at the January 28, 2020 municipal council meeting. At that meeting, council will have three options:

1. to accept the cemetery; or
2. to deny the cemetery; or
3. defer a decision and/or hold a public meeting.
