Cobourg Will Get 10 New Bike Racks this Spring

In City Hall

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Cobourg council voted at this week’s committee-of-the-whole meeting to purchase 10 new bicycle racks to be installed in the Spring.

The recommendation came from the Transportation Advisory Committee, and the purchase will come from the 2019 active transportation budget. The cost is $791 plus HST apiece (for a total of $8,338.30), with the cost of installation by the public-works department estimated at $5,000.

Installation sites will be the Farmer’s Market, Coverdale Tennis Club, the post office, the east and west promenades at the beach, Legion Fields, and the soccer fields at Donegan Park and the Cobourg Community Centre.

“I went into the capital budget for transportation, and we did approve $20,000 – and this is within the approved budget,” Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin said.

“I applaud the transportation committee for adding more bike racks.”
