Called ‘Canada’s Indiana Jones” by the Toronto Star, Explorer-in-Residence, Royal Canadian Geographical Society, and professional adventurer, Adam will be giving a presentation at Cobourg Public Library on Monday, November 25 at 6:30 pm about his Canada 150
adventure.
In 2017 bestselling author, Adam Shoalts completed a nearly 4,000 km solo journey across North America’s greatest wilderness, Canada’s Arctic which he has documented in his new book, Beyond the Trees. A Journey Alone Across Canada’s Arctic.
Adam chronicles his travels alone up raging rivers that only the most expert white-water canoeists dare travel even downstream. He portaged
across fields of jagged rocks that stretch to the horizon, and navigate labyrinths of swamps, tormented by clouds of mosquitoes every step of
the way. He weaved through froze ice floes, faced down wild snarling bears , a herd of galloping musk-ox, and paddled under the midnight sun in a land as old as time. And he raced against the calendar meant that he could afford the luxuries of rest, or of making mistakes. Shoalts
must trek tirelessly, well into the endless Arctic summer nights, at times not even pausing to eat.
A thrilling odyssey through an unforgiving landscape, from “Canada’s greatest living explorer.”
