Volunteers Who Clean Up The Highway of Heroes Recognized in Queen’s Park

Members of the Highway of Heroes who clean along the stretch of highway twice a year were recognized in the Provincial Legislation on Thursday, November 7, 2019 in Toronto.

MPP David Piccini paid tribute to the men and women who each year clean along the 344 km of the Highway of Heroes. (172 km each way) from CFB Trenton to Toronto.

Over the course the volunteers including military, veterans, emergency responders and civilians have cleaned over 1,400 bags of garbage.
Piccini stated in the Legislature:

“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize…and thank….the unsung heroes, of our Highway of Heroes.
Throughout the year, often braving the elements, these incredible volunteers clean up litter, garbage and all sorts of horrid things along the sacred stretch of highway from Trenton to Toronto…officially renamed “Highway of Heroes” in honour of Canada’s Fallen.
Welcome to the Peoples House, We thank you, I thank you!
Mr. Speaker, I would also ask that those Military Members, Veterans, First Responders and Families of the Fallen please stand.
In Addition I would like to introduce three mothers, of fallen Canadian soldiers
Anna Loveman, mother of Craftman Kyle Sinclair
Diane Knight, mother of Major Michelle Knight Mendes
Honourary Lieutenant Colonel, Nancy Siew, mother of Captain Cletus Cheng.”

After, Premier Doug Ford and MPP Piccini met with close to 50 members of the group who clean the Highway of Heroes and acknowledge their contributions.

Cadet Matt Antoine, Emma Eamon, Kate Eamon, Isabele Paquette and Chloe Carter-Edwards all from the Cornwall area presented Premier Ford and MPP Piccini with hockey jersey’s from the Highway of Heroes Hockey game that was held on November 2, 2019 in Kingston.
