Cobourg Police – Weekly Media Release October 28th to November 3rd, 2019

From the 28th of October 2019 through the 3rd November 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 248 calls for service including: 12 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 5 Alarm calls, 14Theft/Shoplifting calls, 20 Suspicious Persons/Vehicles calls, 5 Domestic/Family Disputes, 3 Mischief calls, 7 Assault calls, 2 Mental Health calls, 4 Missing Person calls, 7 Traffic Complaints, 7 Property related, 6 Warrants Executed and 2 Impaired driving call. Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:

Monday October 28
· On this date a male and female attended CPS and turned themselves into police in regarding an on-going theft investigation. Both parties were arrested and released on from custody on a promise to appear with condition for a future court date.

· Police responded to hotel on 2 separate occasions this date. The first visit was to assist ambulance with a male who had suffered multiple seizures from suspected drug use. The male refused medical treatment and police and ambulance left the business. Police re-attended several hours later as a female had placed another call to 911 discretely advising dispatch of her location and that she wanted this same male out of the unit. Police attended and located the 911 caller walking away from the hotel.
She advised of a verbal argument between her and the male resulting in no threats or assaults. She advised she left as the male was still coming down from a high. No further Police action was required.

Tuesday October 29
· Police responded to Probation and Parole for a report of an irate male in their secure room. It was also noted that the male had an outstanding arrest warrant with probation and parole from Northumberland OPP. Police attended and placed the male under arrest for the outstanding warrant. Warrant was confirmed and the male was transported to Northumberland OPP where custody was taken over.

· Cobourg Police responded to the court house in regarding an irate Male who was challenging court staff. Police responded and located the male who was upset do to Family Court which he was asked to leave once he got verbally aggressive with the court staff. The male would not calm and continued to be irate with police. Do to his continued aggressive behavior towards police and court staff, the male was advised not to attend the court for the rest of the day.

· Police were attended a motel in town after receiving information that a wanted party may be in one of the rooms. Police were let in by occupants of the room and police observed a quantity of drugs in plain view and arrested the 3 occupants of the room for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. The wanted party was one of the 3 people arrested and was held in custody for a bail hearing. The other two people were released on a promise to appear with conditions.

Wednesday October 30
· On this date Cobourg Police were called to an area hotel in report of a lap top computer and IPAD that had been stolen from a patron of the hotel when they were away from a brief case. While the theft report was being taken the victim used the tracking device on the IPAD and discovered the item located in the area of the Mall and that it was moving. Police attended the area and located 2 suspects who were known to Police. Both females were arrest and the stolen property located on them. Both females were released on a promise to appear and the property recovered and returned to its owner.

· Police were called to an address in the central part of town regarding a disturbance inside a residence. When Police arrived on scene, they learned that one of the residence in the unit were throwing object around the home and being belligerent to others in the home. The male was in an intoxicated state and was arrested to prevent a further breech of the peace. The male was released when there was no longer a risk the breech would continue.

Thursday October 31
· Police were called to assist Northumberland Humane Society to check on welfare of an animal located at an address in the central part of Cobourg. The dog was found to be in good health. Animal services and the Coburg Police determined that all was in order and no further action was needed

· Police were contacted regarding a custody of a child. The complainant in this incident advise that his ex was withholding their child and not granting the complainant access or visitation as arranged. Police investigation revealed that there was no current court order in place for the child regarding visitation which limited any Police action in this matter. Police spoke with all parties and provided them with information on how to move forward in the future.

Friday November 1st
· Officers were dispatched to attend an area of Division Street regarding a male who was reportedly looking in mailboxes of homes. Officers attended and subsequently located the male who adamantly denied looking in mailbox despite matching the description provided by the complainant without further information Police were not able to proceed with any charges. The male was cautioned and left the area without further incident.

· Police attended the area of Strathy Rd upon a report of an intoxicated male who fell in a area business and had a bloody lip. Police managed to locate the male and placed under arrest for public intoxication. Male held at the Cobourg Police Station until more sober and no longer a risk to himself.

Saturday November 2nd
· Police responded to the area of Parkview Hills Drive upon report of possible gunshots and sirens Police attended and stayed in the area for an extended length of time and spoke to pedestrians. No similar sounds had been heard.

· Police attended to a residence on Carroll Cr in Cobourg in report of a vehicle that had crashed into a house. Police attended and arrested driver for impaired operation. The driver of the motor vehicle was transported to the Cobourg Police Station for breath testing. When the tests were concluded it was determined that the drivers blood alcohol levels were with the legal limits and the driver was charged accordingly and released.

– Police attended a gas station on Division street in response to a reported assault. The Complainant advised that while pulled over on highway 401 in Colborne she was approached by female who was on foot. The female advised she had been beaten and required Police. Police and EMS attended and spoke with the female who was very erratic and appeared to be suffering from a recent head injuries. She refused medical attention and escalated even more at which point Police apprehended her under the mental health act and transported her to NHH where she had to be restrained due to her behavior. OPP were advised of the assault that had allegedly occurred within their jurisdiction and are currently investigating.

Sunday November 3rd
· Police were called to attend an address in Cobourg after receiving complaint of a domestic incident. Police launched an investigation and learned that the complainants common law husband was drunk and threatened to choke her to death. Police based on their investigation determined that an offence had occurred and arrested the male at the scene. The male was transported to the Cobourg Police station charged accordingly and released with conditions and a court date when sober.
