On Friday October 25, 2019 members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth from the Municipality of Trent Hills after police responded to a report of a vehicle that had been taken without consent. The vehicle was located a short time later in a nearby abandoned field on 4th Line East. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested then transported back to the detachment for further testing. The driver registered three times the l egal limit and was subsequently charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The youth was released and is scheduled to appear in Youth Justice Court on a later date.
At approximately 4:45 am on October 27, 2019 officers responded to to an address on Skyview Road after a resident woke up and observed a vehicle with its lights on in the back yard of her residence. Officers arrived on scene and upon speaking with the driver, an odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected. Gordon Stuart LEY (age 26) of Cobourg, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired -& n bsp;alcohol and drugs
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on November 27, 2019.
Just before 7:00 am on October 27, 2019 police received a call from a resident who resides on Ganaraska Road advising that a blue pick up truck had driven down a ditch and collided with a fence on the property. The officers arrived on scene and detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) was administered resulting in a “fail”. Donald James BROCKWELL (age 26) of Hiawatha First Nation, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The driver additionally received charges under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and the Tresspass to Property Act (TPA).
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on on December 11, 2019.
The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
