Cobourg Fire Fighter’s Association Donates Movie Proceeds to Cornerstone

In Community

Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre was pleased to accept a $1,740 donation from the Cobourg Fire Fighters Association, funds received will help sponsor two weeks of shelter for a local woman or child through the #100NightsChallenge.

Local Fire Department Captain, kevin Schroeder is responsible for arranging the gift through involvement with the Netflix series, Ginny & Georgia, which is filming in Cobourg.
“We are happy to be able to support Cornerstone through this unique opportunity,” said Schroeder.
“When we were approached to be involved, I wanted to ensure that we could have some impact on a local organization. With Netflix’s blessing, and with the Chief and Deputy being involved in the #SheCouldBe campaign, we wanted to continue our involvement with Cornerstone so local women and children impacted by violence have a safe place to turn to in their time of need.”

Cornerstone executive direction, Nancy Johnston said they were “very grateful” for the funds from the Cobourg Fire Fighters Association.
“It is great to see local agencies working with external corporations to have an impact. These funds allow us to provide two weeks of shelter to a local woman or child. This is not only an opportunity to provide safety, but also hope for the future for a local family; an opportunity they may not have otherwise had.”

Cornerstone Family Violence Prevent Centre is committed to breaking the cycle of family violence by providing immediate shelter, counselling and prevention services throughout Northumberland County so that together we can create a place where hope grows.

Scotiabank also graciously donated the proceeds from the money received from the Netflix series to Cornerstone.
