Northumberland OPP – Locking Vehicles Could Have Helped Prevent Thefts

In Police Blotter

Between August 25, and September 7, 2019 members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have received thirteen reports of thefts from motor vehicles in Hamilton Township. The most recent targeted location was in the area of Van Luven Road and Nagle Road.

Eleven of these vehicles were confirmed to be unlocked and the owers of other two were unclear if they had locked them or not.

The thefts occurred while the vehicles were parked in their driveways during the over night hours. Various items including wallets and vehicle documents have been reported as stolen. Losing these pieces of identification make the vehicle owner susceptible to the possiblilty of becoming a victim of identity theft and numerous other financial types of crimes.

The OPP want to remind the public to keep valuables out of sight or remove them from your vehicle altogether. At the end of the day check that all your widows are up, take your keys with you and make sure your vehicle is locked!!

Anyone who observes suspicious persons or activity in your area especially during the night time hours is encouraged to call police.

If you have any information that could assist the Northumberland OPP with these ongoing investigations please contact your nearest OPP detachment or call Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). You can also submit information online at www.stopcrimehere.ca.
