Lakefront Utility Services Looking To Find Solution After Hydro Pole Installed Blocks Sidewalk

In Local

Lakefront Utility Services Inc. said because of the limited space, a hydro pole was installed nearly in the centre of a sidewalk in Cobourg.

Today’s Northumberland sent Dereck Paul, President of Lakefront Utility Services a number of photos showing the pole nearly in the centre of the sidewalk on Park Street just west of Division Street.

“When we replaced the pole, since there is limited space and we could not encroach on private property and the sidewalk was to be redone beside the pole. Obviously according to the pictures it subsequently wasn’t.”

A person in a wheelchair could not get by given where the pole is located.

Paul said with limited space of the pole already in place and a possible crack pole with it leaning it was “very dangerous.”

“We could not replace it immediately with the manhole on the left side and driveway on the right side. Engineering studies meant we couldn’t be too far from the originally post proximity.”

Paul didn’t say if the problem could be corrected, but did indicated he would be discussing it with the Town of Cobourg to see if there is a solution.
