Piccini Congratulates Local Health System Stakeholders

Press Release

The Government of Ontario is delivering on its promise to end hallway health care. Ontario Health Teams (OHT) have recently been introduced to help transform the provincial health care landscape. The first group of Ontario Health Teams will be approved this fall and subsequent Ontario Health Teams will be established across the province in phases over the next several years.

In response to the Government’s first call for applications to form an OHT, local health system stakeholders established an Ontario Health Team of Northumberland Collaborative Planning Committee and submitted the required self-assessment application. This was followed by a successful roundtable with Minister Elliott and all stakeholders, convened by MPP Piccini.

There were over 150 self-assessment applications submitted to the Ministry of Health in this first round where each application went through an extensive review. In what is a huge accomplishment, Northumberland was among 31 applications that showed a high degree of readiness to proceed to the full application submission stage. This high degree of readiness is a testament to the strong existing collaborative partnerships that already exist in Northumberland.

“I am extremely pleased that Northumberland was among one of the first teams selected by the Ministry of Health to proceed to the full application stage of becoming an Ontario Health Team,” said David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South. “I know that the Planning Committee members have worked tirelessly and I have every confidence that they will be successful. I look forward to continuing to support the team as they move towards becoming one of the first Ontario Health Teams in the province.”

Under the OHT model, the government envisions that patients, families, caregivers and health care providers will more actively shape how local health care services are delivered and managed. The approach will make it easier for local health care providers to partner and deliver high-quality, coordinated care for patients and their communities.
