CCI Senior Girls Compete at “AAA” OFSAA Finals

In Sports

The Cobourg Collegiate Senior Girls Soccer Team competed at the 2019 “AAA” OFSAA Finals in Alliston, Ontario on June 6th and 7th.

Although the Wolves did not make it out of pool play, they did distinguish themselves with their overall performance.

The Wolves first faced Regiopolis – Notre Dame from Kingston in the first game on Thursday. Despite controlling long periods of play and having several scoring chances, the Wolves could not find the back of the net. Regiopolis squeaked out a 1-0 victory with a bit of good fortune on a 40 metre shot.

In the second game the Wolves face St. Marcellinus Secondary from Mississauga. Again the Wolves dominated and could not score. A fine goal by St. Marcellinus left the Wolves without a win on the first day of the tournament Friday CCI faced East York Secondary in the first game and, again, controlled most of the match. Emma Davis scored for the Wolves, but East York quickly answered with a goal. Despite outstanding play from Brooke Kupke, Annabell Lewis, Maddy Byrnes and Abby Parr, the Wolves could not find the winning goal and and they had to settle for a tie.

In the final match of the tournament the Wolves faced St. Thomas of Villanova Secondary School from Windsor. This was the toughest match of the four, as Villanova was a very strong team that eventually earned a medal in the tournament. Hope Jones came close to scoring for the Wolves, and Lauren Jaravata played her heart out in defense, but Villanova ran out with a 2-0 victory.

The Wolves should be proud of their season. They won both the Kawartha and COSSA “AAA” championships and were very competitive against the best teams in the province.
