June 3, 2019 to June 9, 2019 the Cobourg Police Service responded to 225 occurrences including; 30 community service calls, 23 police assistance calls, 6 traffic complaints, 4 fraud calls, 9 suspicious person calls, 5 police Information calls, 8 property related calls, 5 assault calls, 3 break and enter call, 11 – 911 calls, 2 liquor License act calls, 7 theft calls, 9 motor vehicle collisions, 8 alarm calls, 5 harassment calls, 7 disturb the peace calls, 3 threats call, 1 noise complaint, 7 domestic dispute calls, 3 family disputes, 2 attempt or threat of suicide calls. June 3, 2019
At 8:46 am officers were dispatched to a local high school regard alleged threats made in relation to a firearm. The threats were reportedly made over a social media application. While the individual making the threats was not present, a lockdown of the school was initiated, to ensure student, teacher and public safety. As a result of police investigation one youth was arrested and charged with Uttering Threats under the Criminal Code.
June 4, 2019
At 5:08 am officers were dispatched to a west end neighborhood, regarding a raccoon reportedly observed in the area. It was suspected the raccoon was unwell and possibly a danger to members of the public in the vicinity. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate the raccoon. The raccoon appeared to have left the area prior to police arrival.
Officers located a man currently sought by the Cobourg Police Service on the strength of two outstanding arrest warrants after conducting a foot patrol in an east end neighborhood. As a result of a police investigation, 27 year old Nicholas McCarthy was arrested and charged with weapon: Possession for Dangerous Purpose, Possession of Substance in Schedule 1 (suspected fentanyl) and three counts of Fail to comply with Probation under the Criminal Code. McCarthy was held in custody scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing in June, 2019.
At approximately 6:30 pm 59 year old Morely Callan of the City of Caledonia who was sought by the Cobourg Police Service on reasonable and probable grounds attended the Cobourg Police Station to turn himself into Police Custody. Callan was subsequently arrested and charged with Uttering Threats, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Theft under $5,000 and Possession of Property obtained by Crime Under $5,000 under the Criminal Code. Callan was released from Police Custody scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in July of 2019.
June 5, 2019
At 1:45 am Officers were dispatched to at residence in the downtown core, after receiving a report of a man inside the home unresponsive. Officers attended and located the man in a of medical distress. Paramedics arrived on scene and subsequently transported him to Northumberland Hills Hospital for further medical treatment.
At 11:46 am police immediately responded to a residence in the east end of Cobourg, after receiving information that a man had collapsed and was not breathing. Police arrived on scene and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Paramedics attended and subsequently transported the man to Northumberland Hills Hospital for further medical follow up.
At approximately 1:00 pm officers attended a residential address located in a north end neighborhood, after receiving a report of an intoxicated man who was allegedly causing damage inside the home. Upon arrival officers were confronted by the intoxicated man who engaged officers in a physical altercation as officers attempted to take him into custody for the offence of Mischief. One police officer suffered minor injuries. As a result 31 year old Bradley Mineault of the Town of Cobourg was arrested and charged with Mischief, Assault with intent to resist Arrest and Breach of Recognizance under the Criminal Code. Mineault was held in custody scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in June, 2019.
June 6, 2019
At approximately 3:00 pm officers responded to a residential address in the downtown core regarding a man who was reportedly acting erratically. Officers attended and assisted paramedics who were on scene. The involved man was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital for ongoing medical assessment.
At approximately 3:30 pm officers conducted a foot patrol in the downtown core. Everything appeared to be in order. No violations observed.
Police responded to a residential address in the down core after receiving a report of a missing five year old. Information received indicated that the child had last been observed riding his bicycle in area of his residence. The child was located, escorted back to his residence and left in the care of his mother. All in order.
June 7, 2019
Officers of the Cobourg Police Service are investigating the report of stolen motor vehicle. Police were informed that a black coloured, 2006 GMC Sierra pick-up truck was stolen from the driveway of a residential address on Park Lane between 9:00 pm June 5 and 4:00 am on June 6. The truck has an Ontario license plate, 40RA91, and numerous stickers on the back window. Investigation continues.
Members of the Cobourg Police Service attended the City of Milton, after learning 32 year old David Treger had been located and was currently sought by the Cobourg Police Service on the strength of two outstanding arrest warrants. Treger was subsequently arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and Possession of Property obtained by Crime under 5,000 under the Criminal Code. Treger was later released scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in July of 2019.
Officers were dispatched to a business located in the north end of Cobourg regarding a suspected intoxicated man. The man was reportedly observed lying in a business parking lot in close proximity to the roadway. Police attended and located him, who was subsequently arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. Due to concern for his personal well-being the man was held in police custody until sober. The man was later charged under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a public place.
June 8, 2019
Police attended a business located in the west end Cobourg, regarding an alleged theft from the premise. Police investigation revealed that an unidentified man had removed 20 lottery tickets from the business making no attempt to pay for the items in his possession. Investigation continues and police are still looking for the public’s assistance in locating the man.
Police investigated a report of an intrusion alarm at a local business located in the downtown core at approximately 10:00 am. Police conducted an extensive search of the premise. All in order. Alarm appeared to be unfounded.
Officers were dispatched to attend in the area of the Cobourg Marina regarding two men who were suspected to be intoxicated. Officers attended and located the men but found no evidence to substantiate the men were under the influence of any intoxicating substance. All in order.
June 9, 2019
On Sunday, June 9, 2019, at 2:01 am, officers on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling in the downtown in a manner described as erratic. Officers conducted a traffic stop due to concerns that the driver may be impaired. As a result of police investigation 32 year old Brittany Ashby of Thunder Bay was charged with Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code and Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code. Ashby was released from police custody scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in July of 2019.

The man was reportedly observed attempting to gain entry into the home with a saw. Police attended and located the man who was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. Due to concern for his personal well-being the man was held in police custody until sober. The man was charged under the Liquor Licence Act for being intoxicated in a public place.
