Durham Police – Vehicle Stolen During Test Drive

A Markham male was meeting a potential buyer for his used vehicle when the suspect drove off during a test drive.

The victim had listed his 2016 Toyota Camry for sale on Autotrader and was contacted by the suspect. They arranged to meet at a parking lot in the area of Rossland Road East and Salem Road in Ajax. On Friday, May 24, 2019, at approximately 4:35 p.m., the suspect asked the victim if he could test the brakes on the vehicle. He reversed the vehicle then drove off.

The suspect is described as: male of a South Asian descent, in his mid- to late 20s, and approximately 5’ 11” with a slender build. He had short black hair, a full bear and was wearing a white t-shirt, beige dress pants and grey shoes.

The stolen vehicle is described as: a grey, four-door 2016 Toyota Camry with the license plates CHXV 224.

Officers in West Division are investigating seven thefts of motor vehicles in the area between May 24 and May 31, 2019. It is not known if these incidents are related.
